About Image Resizer

The Image Resizer changes the pixel dimensions of a picture. Set a new width and height, or drag the percentage slider to scale the image up or down, with an aspect-ratio lock that keeps proportions intact. The preview shows the new size before you download.

Resizing runs in your browser, so your photo stays on your device. The result is saved as a JPEG at high quality, and downloading requires a free ToolGhost account.

How to use the Image Resizer

  1. Upload an image. Its original width and height are filled in automatically.
  2. Either type a new width or height, or move the Resize by Percentage slider (1% to 200%).
  3. Keep Lock Aspect Ratio ticked to avoid stretching, or untick it to set both dimensions freely.
  4. Click Resize Image to preview the result, then download it (sign in if prompted).

What it can do

Exact pixel sizes

Match the exact dimensions required by a website, social platform or form.

Percentage scaling

Halve an image or enlarge it by a set percentage in one move.

Aspect ratio lock

Change one dimension and the other follows automatically.

Preview before download

See the new dimensions and image before you save.

When it is useful

  • Preparing a profile picture or banner that must be an exact size.
  • Reducing large camera photos so they upload faster or fit an email.
  • Creating web-sized versions of images for a blog or online shop.
  • Making thumbnails of consistent dimensions.

Good to know

  • Enlarging an image beyond its original size cannot add detail, so it will look softer or blurry.
  • The output file is a JPEG. Transparent areas in a PNG will become solid.
  • Resizing changes the dimensions, not necessarily the file size by the same ratio. Use the Image Compressor if you also need a smaller file.
  • Unticking the aspect-ratio lock can stretch or squash the picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.How do I resize an image without distorting it?
Keep Lock Aspect Ratio ticked. When you change width or height, the other value is calculated to preserve the proportions.
Q.What format is the resized image?
JPEG, saved at 90% quality. If you need PNG or WebP, convert it afterwards with the Image Compressor.
Q.Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, up to 200% with the slider or by typing larger dimensions, but enlarging cannot add detail, so the image may look soft.
Q.Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing is done in your browser. A free account is only needed to download the result.
Q.What size should a social media or web image be?
It depends on the platform. As a rule, check the platform’s current recommended dimensions and resize to exactly that width and height.
Q.Will resizing make the file smaller?
Usually, because fewer pixels means less data, but the exact saving depends on the image. Combine with the Image Compressor for more control.
Q.Can I resize several images at once?
Not currently. Resize them one at a time.
