Split PDF

Extract pages or split into individual files

About Split PDF

Split PDF lets you take a document apart. You can either save every page as its own PDF, or extract a continuous range of pages (for example pages 3 to 7) into a new file. It is the quickest way to send one chapter of a long report, remove the pages you do not need, or break a scanned batch into separate documents.

Like our other PDF utilities, this tool runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file is read locally and the new PDFs are generated on your device, so the document is not uploaded to our servers.

How to use the Split PDF

  1. Click the upload area and choose the PDF you want to split.
  2. Choose a mode: Split into individual pages, or Extract page range.
  3. For a range, enter the start and end page numbers. The total page count is shown after the file loads.
  4. Click the action button. Individual pages download as file_page_1.pdf, file_page_2.pdf and so on; a range downloads as one file named with the page numbers.

What it can do

Two modes

Split every page into a separate file, or pull out only the range you need.

Original quality

Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so text stays sharp and searchable.

Clear file names

Output files include the original name and page numbers, which makes them easy to sort afterwards.

Private by design

Everything happens locally in the browser tab.

When it is useful

  • Sending only the signature page of a contract.
  • Removing a cover page or blank pages from a scan by extracting the pages you want to keep.
  • Separating a combined scan of several receipts into individual PDFs.
  • Sharing a single chapter of a textbook or report.

Good to know

  • Splitting into individual pages of a long document triggers many downloads. Your browser may ask permission to download multiple files.
  • Extraction takes one continuous range. To keep non-adjacent pages, extract each range separately and combine them with Merge PDF.
  • Encrypted PDFs cannot be processed until the password is removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.How do I extract just a few pages from a PDF?
Choose Extract page range, enter the first and last page you want, and run the tool. You get a new PDF containing only those pages.
Q.Can I extract pages that are not next to each other, like 1 and 5?
Not in one step. Extract page 1 and page 5 as two separate files, then combine them with the Merge PDF tool.
Q.What happens when I choose Split into individual pages?
The tool creates one PDF per page and downloads them one after another. A 20-page document produces 20 files.
Q.Does splitting reduce the quality of the pages?
No. Pages are copied directly from the original, so images and text are unchanged.
Q.Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. The splitting is performed in your browser and the files never leave your device.
Q.Why did my browser block some of the downloads?
Browsers can block several automatic downloads at once. Allow multiple downloads for this site when prompted, then run the split again.
Q.Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not until you remove the password. Open it in a PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and split that.
Q.Will form fields and bookmarks survive?
Page content survives. Document-level features such as bookmarks and some form fields may not be carried into the new files.
