About Meta Tag Generator

The Meta Tag Generator builds the HTML meta tags that search engines and social networks read to understand your page: title, description, keywords, robots directives, language, author, canonical-style information, and Open Graph and Twitter Card tags for rich link previews. Fill in a form and copy ready-to-paste code for the head of your page.

A live Google search preview shows roughly how your title and description will appear in results, and character guides warn you before you run past the recommended lengths.

How to use the Meta Tag Generator

  1. On the General tab, enter your site title and description. Watch the character counters.
  2. Add keywords, choose whether robots should index and follow, set the language, character set and revisit interval, and add an author.
  3. Open the Social / OG tab to add a social image URL and choose a Twitter Card type.
  4. Check the Google Search Preview on the right.
  5. Click Copy Code and paste the generated tags into the <head> section of your page.

When it is useful

  • Adding proper titles and descriptions to a new website or landing page.
  • Setting up link previews for blog posts shared on Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
  • Controlling whether a staging or thin page is indexed by search engines.
  • Teaching clients what each meta tag does.

Good to know

  • Titles are typically cut off by Google at around 50 to 60 characters and descriptions at around 150 to 160, depending on pixel width. The tool’s limits are guides, not guarantees.
  • The meta keywords tag is ignored by Google and has little modern value. Include it only if another system needs it.
  • Google may rewrite your title or description in search results if it thinks another snippet fits the query better.
  • Setting robots to noindex tells search engines not to list the page. Use it deliberately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What meta tags matter most for SEO?
The title tag and meta description matter most for how your page appears in results. A correct robots directive and canonical URL are important for indexing. Keywords are largely ignored.
Q.How long should a title and description be?
Aim for roughly 50 to 60 characters for the title and 150 to 160 for the description so they are less likely to be truncated.
Q.What are Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?
They tell social networks which title, description and image to display when someone shares your link. Without them, platforms guess and often choose poorly.
Q.Where do I paste the generated code?
Inside the <head> element of your HTML page. In WordPress and other CMSs, use the theme header or an SEO plugin’s custom head field.
Q.Will adding meta tags guarantee better rankings?
No. They help search engines and users understand your page and can improve click-through, but rankings depend mainly on content quality and links.
Q.Does the tool store my data?
No. The tags are generated in your browser.
Q.Should I use noindex?
Only on pages you do not want in search results, such as thank-you pages, internal search results or staging copies.
