About Discount Calculator

The Discount Calculator shows the final price and the amount you save when an item is reduced by a percentage. Enter the original price and the discount, or tap a quick-select percentage, and the tool displays the sale price, the savings, and a short breakdown of the calculation.

It is helpful for checking a "30% off" claim at the shelf, comparing offers across stores, and deciding whether a bigger percentage on a pricier item really beats a smaller one on a cheaper item.

How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage, or choose one of the quick-select buttons.
  3. Click Calculate Savings.
  4. Read the final price, how much you save and the breakdown. Use Reset to start another calculation.

When it is useful

  • Verifying the real sale price before you reach the till.
  • Comparing two offers, such as 25% off one item versus a fixed amount off another.
  • Budgeting for seasonal sales and clearance events.

Good to know

  • The calculator applies one percentage to the price you enter. If a store gives a second discount, enter the first result as the new original price.
  • It does not add sales tax or shipping. Check whether the displayed price already includes tax.
  • The currency symbol is a label only; the maths is identical for any currency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.How do I calculate the sale price after a discount?
Multiply the price by (1 minus the discount percentage / 100). For 20% off 80, that is 80 x 0.8 = 64.
Q.How do I calculate two discounts in a row?
Apply them one at a time: calculate the first discount, then use that final price as the original price for the second. Two 20% discounts equal 36% off in total, not 40%.
Q.Does the calculator include tax?
No. Add local sales tax or VAT separately if the shelf price excludes it.
Q.Can I work out the original price from the sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 minus the discount). A 25% off sale price of 75 means the original price was 75 / 0.75 = 100.
Q.Does it work with any currency?
Yes. Only the numbers matter.
Q.Is my data saved?
No. Everything is computed in your browser.
